Hike A - From Cala Xucla near Portinatx
From the beach of Cala Xucla (photo 1) head left along the coastline path (photo 2, photo 3, photo 4, photo 5)
When the path widens out (photo 6) and becomes a rest area with the remains of a fire at its centre, stay by the coast (photo 7) until the broad path bears to the left (photo 8, photo 9, photo 10) and leads you to the S'Illot de Rencli Restaurant.
Follow the driveway up to the main road (photo 11) and follow this to the right for 100 metres or so, until a blue arrow painted on the crash barrier indicates the place to step over the barrier (photo 12) to join another coastal path (photo13, photo 14).
We follow this (photo 15) until it rejoins the main road just above Cala Xarraca (photo 16), then turn right again following the main road past the entrance to Cala Xarraca (photo 17).
A hundred metres further down the road we find a large new almacen overlooking the road and turning into its entrance we see a path marked by a blue cross heading up into the forest (photo 18, photo 19). A second blue arrow 50 metres further on confirms that we are on the right track. We follow this track past a finca to our right as the gentle path (photo 20) passes through a fertile valley. We pass another track leading down to the right marked by an old fence (photo 21). Eventually we reach a crossroads and take the right turn (photo 22), which then passes between two houses.
The track turns abruptly right and in the dip (photo 23) you pass an old abandoned car before arriving at a T-junction.
Turn left here following the camino uphill into the trees until a three-way junction by an electricity box (photo 24). Take the left hand fork and at the next fork continue left again. At a curve to the right leading into an old finca take the path to the left again which leads us up a shaded forest path up the hill (photo 25). At the top of the hill is a large water cistern attached to a house (photo 26). Follow the path around to the left of these and you can see the sea through the trees at the bottom of the valley (photo 27).
The path leads to a wide camino that takes you down into the valley (photo 28) and as it descends you can see an extraordinary house with towers and turrets perched on the hill to your right (photo 29).
After a while when the camino forks (photo 30), follow it to the right along the floor of the valley past old stone walls (photo 31) until you meet the main road. Follow the main road straight on to the right for 200 metres and you are back at the turning down to Cala Xucla beach (photo 32) and the start of the walk.
